Milk strike over?

Kyan seems to have grown out outta his milk strike, which is a good thing! Now he can drink up till the highest at 170ml and the last feed was about 4 to 5hours back. But generally on an average of 120ml to 150ml.

Now he starts to put everything into his mouth already....teething baby! poor boy!

He's ever so talkative now! Cheeky little boy...

I guess it will be fun to start him on solids on his 6th month. He seems to be interested in seeing us eat. He's now on Similac on the last feed for the night. During the daytimes, its either brown rice powder mixed with EBM or just the pure EBM.

Bought the neck float + swimming tub for him and realise he doesn't like the neck float...sigh! Just hope its cos we didn't put the neck float well around his neck.

Kyan's sleeping patterns seem to be abit distorted over the past 2 days. Usually he has no problem sleeping through till 6am+ from his last feed at about 10pm+. These days, he started waking up early at 5am wanting milk! Another growth spurt?

At my mum's....addictive online shopping

It was a one week hiatus for my mil, who had her hand injured and still not recovered for the past few weeks. The nagging pain came on and off. As i wanted to give her a break and some time to heal her hand, kyan was brought over to my mum's instead. Together with my mum (she and i took a week's leave) we took care of kyan since monday. Kyan and I stayed at my mum's place during this period. I am really thankful i have my mum to help, or else i have no idea how i would have been able to cope (judging from kyan's fussy drinking habits). But there is one thing i really must thank for...that is the sarong (yaolan) that karen loan to us cos it makes things easier sometimes....thanks karen! However this little boy is an active one. The other day my mum put him into the sarong he fidgetted here and there and BANG! His head hit against the side metal bar of the sarong and he cried really badly with a ba luku on his forehead. My mum used a boiled egg to rub on that area and it subsided after that.

Kyan still proves a toughie when drinking milk...though now my mum is more experienced with this little one's patterns. Mummies are still the more experienced ones, they know how to deal...thanks to the previous experiences bringing us up.

Kyan now has little white teeth forming at his gums though his first tooth hasn't literally popped up yet...so he's pretty cranky. I guess its due to the teething discomforts. On top of it sometimes the weather just kills. its darn hot!!! wahhhhh....He is a really "yang oh" baby...why? everytime see us always "ehh ehh" then next moment cry expect us to carry him...aiyo....

I think by now he has recognised who is who...yesterday i displayed the action of asking whether he wants me to carry, and he arched his body towards me...how cute!!

But sometimes he doesn't want mummy....BOO HOOO!!! =( so sad lo, prefers his grandma instead. Cos he will cry and cry and i failed to pacify him...so my mum took charge and he stopped crying....wonder why? Is it because i have the milk smell on me and he hates it?

Have started to add in the rice powder into the breastmilk. I guess variety works better for him. He's on one feed of FM and one feed of rice powder+EBM daily, with the other feeds still on EBM.

Nowadays i also try to stretch my pumping sessions. Sometimes work, sometimes not. End up with painful and engorged breasts. I guess i'm better off pumping 3x a day still. Don't be too greedy stretching pump sessions ya...wanted to give up breastfeeding and pumping actually, but no guts yet. Now kyan seems to drink EBM again, probably because as i mentioned, there is variety for him since i included FM/rice powder into one of his feeds now.

Ok now to my shopping stuffs. I have finally bought a yellow swimming tub for kyan. Cannot tahan...hehe....i guess i am addicted to online shopping le...v dangerous. Got cheap photo frames, clothes and belts and some miscellaneous stufs for myself and kyan. Better control control...*bites teeth*...daddy has given me "warning" le...better control....

The second Hep B jab and rotavirus

Kyan had his second dose of Hep B today with the rotavirus vaccination. Now i'm still monitoring every now and then to make sure he doesn't have fever *frowns*

We highlighted to Dr Vanessa about his fussiness over feedings. She said his nephew is also like that...but generally if he's drinking a range of 400ml to 800ml per day is ok (400ml on the low side and 800ml on the high side, 600ml is normal). However if he's drinking less than 400ml we gotta bring him back to the clinic for fear of dehydration. So guess we shouldn't expect too much ba?

She checked on kyan and highlighted that he's ok other than his rashes on neck (which have now developed into an infection already) and diagnosed that it has been a very long time since the rashes were there, and she was right. We tried applying "shen long powder" but she did not encourage that, and prescribed western medicine cream and powder instead. So now we got to be diligent in applying.

Dr Vanessa also highlighted that kyan has teething symptoms when we asked her to check, so teething gel was prescribed. Teething will also affect appetite.

And we are so desperate that we are trying spoon feeding now...haiz...it works sometimes yet not...so tough to feed him now *double frowns*...was i that fussy during my pregnancy? Maybe i was thats why kyan is like that.

Happy 4th Month!!

Ok that was yesterday...pardon me for the delay as i was trying to upload the videos and photos of the shaving and swimming process...and i wasn't very lucky in doing so to speak. Anyway we brought kyan to hwa xia for a clean hair shave and dip in the tub. Surprisingly little one was super calm during the shaving process and made no fuss at all! After that he had a dip in the pool...he did cry for abit but after that can see he enjoyed it. He was so relaxed that he actually fell asleep! Wanted to do the massage for him but didn't, as we went for lunch first and nigel fell asleep so we all head back home instead. The photos during the shave were abit blur, since I couldn't get the cam to work and had to use the hp instead...how timely! Grrrr....

The challenge comes from...FEEDING!!!

Kyan's been totally rejecting milk already...he hates milk?! OMG then how i was wondering...don't babies before 4months survive on milk alone? Sometimes i think it gets pretty sick drinking only milk for that 4months...no wonder kyan became really fussy.

Its a challenge feeding him everytime. Poor mil who feeds and take care of him more than his parents.

Tried spoon feeding with milk and he doesn't like too. These days we had to feed the hard way, either force (which of course there was no other way) or wait till he's in a sleep mode so he drinks while in lala-land.

A few days ago, daddy fed him when he was sleeping. The next moment when he put him up straight in a sitting position, kyan cried immediately...i'm serious! It was an immediate reaction. WHY? Cos he realised he drank milk when he saw the empty milk bottle!!!

Ahhhh how clever the in-generation kids are these days? Well don't try to fool them mind you.

Even before we even put the teat in his mouth, he cries and shift his head away when we put the hanky on his chest and lay him almost horizontally...he knows he's going to drink milk!

How clever is that?! Have i eaten too much fish oil and DHA pills when i was pregnant? HAHA!!
